About a month ago I had the pleasure of meeting Walter Smith, owner of Secret Styling, LLC on Facebook. He reached out, extending an opportunity to review several of his products in return for my feedback while using them on clients. I agreed decided to try the alcohol free Secret Styling Protein Styling Gel on a client requesting an elegant up-do without braids which calls for a sleek, shiny, and smooth finish.
Deionized Water, PVP?VA, Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Polysorbate-20, Soluble Collagen, Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein, Panthenol, Fragrance, Methylisothiazolinone Caramel, and Tetisodium EDTA.
Starting with clean, conditioned, heat free stretched hair, I parted her hair from ear to ear at the back of the ear, placing the section into a pony tail.
This brand also comes in a green package. The yellow pack shown above has double the hair from the green.
Hair comes in strips. The key to it looking natural is to separate the hair before you add it to your hair. It blends much better unless you're going for a highly textured finish. This particular style called for the hair to mimic blown out Afro textured hair.
Once the hair has been stretched the appearance now looks like a blown out or very stretched Afro hair.
I used 4 strips of the Puffy Screw hair per section.
*Extension hair is then wrapped around the elastic pony tail holder and twisted in with the clients natural hair.
*Note: You may also opt to add it after starting the twist with natural hair first, twisting in the extension hair as you go instead of wrapping the extension hair around the elastic as shown above.

I really liked the lightness of this gel, yet strong hold. It left the clients hair with a brilliant shine!
Once the part was from ear to ear coming from the top of the clients head, I parted the front section in a diagonal part from the hairline to the ear to ear part, as shown below. I then began twisting and pinning each twist to the clients head using ball tipped open ended bobby pins. This is where the stylist creativity comes into play or if you are a Naturalista who styles her own hair.
