The Master Cleanse Detox ( my personal experiences)

What is it?
Master Cleanse is a modified juice fast that permits no food, substituting tea and lemonade made with maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Proponents claim that the diet detoxifies the body and removes excess fat.
Main Ingredients for the Master Cleanse Recipe
Pure Filtered Water
Grade B Organic Maple Syrup, Formaldehyde free
Organic Cayenne Pepper
Organic Lemons
Sea salt - Unrefined, (Not iodized) or Epsom Salt
Optional Ingredients:
Laxative tea
Natural Herbal Tea (decaffeinated)
#1 (single serving):
2 Tablespoons of organic lemon Juice (about 1/2 a Lemon fresh squeezed only)
2 Tablespoons of Organic grade B maple syrup (not the commercial maple flavored syrup you use on pancakes)
1/10 Teaspoon Cayenne pepper powder
Ten ounces of filtered water
#2 (60 oz. daily serving):
60 ounces of filtered water
12 Tablespoons of organic grade B maple syrup
12 Tablespoons of organic lemon juice (fresh squeezed only)
1/2 Teaspoon cayenne pepper powder
Day 1 9:46pm:
I haven't drunk all the lemonade for today I was supposed to. I still have about 12 oz's to go so I'll be sure to gulp the rest down before bed. Strangely I'm not hungry nor have I been all day.  My Hunny BBQ'd (we have a bet going and he's trying to sabotage my progress but it's not gonna work) burgers and hotlinks today and I wasn't phased a bit. Not sure how tomorrow will be. One thing about this lemonade is the cayanne pepper makes it very spicy. Me no like the spicy. I Googled to see if there was an alternate ingredient I could use to replace the cayanne pepper only to learn the pepper is one the the most important ingredients in the lemonade. I can honestly say I'm so not looking forward to the morning salt water flush. Not because I've experienced anything negative but I've read so many blog experiences and watched so many YT videos where people stated they gaged or vomited from the flush that I'm a little bit chicken. Nevertheless I'll at least attempt to drink it in the morning. If it doesn't work my plan B is to bust open my box of organic Smoothe Move tea! Well...bottoms up!
Having a lemon squeezer came in handy. I also purchased a 64oz plastic bottle to ensure the proper daily amount is made. Once I added the lemon juice I could no longer fit the lemonade in the 64oz container so I transferred the ade to a gallon sized pitcher.

Deep conditioning before I install my Marley twists...tutorial coming soon. I think installing them helped distract me from thinking about food.

PM Weigh in:
Forgot to weigh in this morning but from now on it'll be done in the AM.

Day 2: 4:55pm
I woke up this morning feeling fine. Immediately weighed myself as I read the first weigh in of the day is most accurate. I'm down about a lb or so. I'm not really doing this fast for weight loss as I am for the cleansing and discipline aspects that come along with the fast. I can easily go to my local rec and work out to bein fat. However the weight loss is a definite bonus. I like my weight to stay between 128-133. It's cool if it fluctuates 5lbs give or take but over the past 8 months I have been eating anything I want with little or no exercise regimen to balance out those extra calories. Thus, a 10 pound weight increase has slowly crept up over what I consider a short time of me not working out. I started drinking soda again and eating red meat, meat in general except pork and I feel so heavy. Eating vegetarian always kept me feeling very light. My energy was through the roof and I just had an over all sense of control over my life.  I remember watching one of those Netflix documentaries hearing how eating meat from abused animals effects our spirit. It made total sense. If I am ingesting food from a living being I am ingesting all that animal has not only ingested but I am eating all the emotion that the animal felt during its lifetime. I'm not sure if it were Food Inc, Forks Over Knives (one of those infamous films about the dangers of eating processed foods, GMO's and hormone ridden meat and poultry) but that stuck with me.  Eating poorly once u gain the knowledge to know better left me feeling very torn. Should I be true to my flesh and what I want or what my body is craving or should I allow myself to feel deprived was my biggest dilemma.   I've come to terms with the fact I absolutely LOVE meat. Lamb, chicken, and beef. Unfortunately those foods do not love me back so knowing these foods are no bueno for my health I've decided to take control back. I'm journaling this now because I want to eat really bad right now. No one in my home understands why I am doing this fast. It's deeper than food. It's a spiritual connection I feel that deals with weaknesses of the mind and body. Getting through this next 10 days successfully is going to prove to me I can do anything I put my mind to. It'll jump start my journey towards eating better like I used to and this time sticking to it. This lemon juice recipe will have to be altered. It's too spicy for my taste. I'll be adding half the cayenne pepper to my next batch of ade. I do understand the importance of having cayenne in the ade I just need it to be a little less spicy. I got a little dizzy around 2:30 while styling a clients hair and had to stop and sit down about 10 minutes. I had only drank my Smoothe Moves Tea and about 8oz of the ade.  Once I drank about 20oz of ade I was good. Still hungry for food but I'm good. My 5pm Appts here so I'll be distracted the next couple hrs.

AM weigh in:

I'm blogging from my iPhone app so if it looks funny that's why.
Day 3 1:21pm:
I woke up around 7am this morning feeling fine.  No salt water flush yet though, I've just been sticking with the Smooth Moves Tea. I have to build the nerve up for that flush. Last night I was craving just about any food that came to mind.  I was looking through my phone and ran across pics of the foods I ate during my recent trip to California and I almost fainted.  Not from hunger but from resisting the temptation to eat.  Hunger has officially kicked in this last hour. Every time I feel the pangs I drink the lemonade.  Doesn't help.  Journaling helps. Yesterday it was more of a craving for food but today I am actually hungry.  Not craving anything specifically though.  Lots of emotions going on, my thoughts and focus are completely off balance and I can only assume it's because I really am in control.  I'm just choosing to do something that is completely out of the norm for me.  At any given moment I am free to walk into the kitchen, open the fridge and eat.  One of my greatest attributes is integrity.  I will not cheat because I know I'd only be cheating myself.  Luckily I've linked up with some pretty awesome people on Instagram who keep me motivated by hash tagging me in there updates and asking about my progress so that's very motivating.  Self discipline is a mofo.  When I think of all the things I do that are not good for me physically (lack of exercise, poor eating habits), mentally (focusing on the wrong things in life), and spiritually (not taking enough time out each day to just reflect) simply because it feels good (at least at the time) I recognize the weakness even more so now that is related to indulgent living.  There is definitely some clarity that comes along with fasting.  I've never fasted in my life.   I think for some people who remain dedicated to the detox myself included you begin to recognize you're detoxing from ALL toxins, not just internal but external as well.  I've repeatedly read and been advised, "if you can make it past day 3 the rest is a breeze!"  Well, at this point the challenge is what is motivating me to keep going.  Knowing that on Day 10 I will have accomplish one of THEE most difficult things I've done in a very, very, very long time.  Knowing that on Day 10 I will be able to stick with any exercise regimen I plan, the healthier eating habits I form, and sustain healthy mental and spiritual sense of well being.  Knowing that on Day 10 being toxic is a thing of the past.
AM Weigh in:
9:51pm: it's gotten to the point now where the hunger has become the normal feeling so I guess it's no longer hunger.  I'm currently steeping my Smoothe Moves tea bag so int he morning I can pass out all the toxins the lemonade has released. I've decided to get back into practing yoga as well. After reading several issues I'd left unread from my Yoga  Journal subscription I was inspired.  There was a time a few years ago I leaned on the beauty of asanas to get me through any situation. My body was fit, core toned, and I just had a better sense of balance all the way around. I'll be joining Diana's School of Yoga again. I really loved that place. Reminded me of a sanctuary. A place of holiness I would go to for clarity and peace. Right now I'm feeling pretty good. I made chicken wings and baked beans for the boys and it didn't even phase me. I wasn't tempted to even taste it. With each day that goes by I feel very proud of myself and the self control I've been able to sustain this past 3 days. Ironically the Master Cleanse "hump day" actually fell on hump day.  Still, I'm taking it one day at a time. I walked to Whole Foods  for more organic lemons just before sunset which is just up the block. It's about 10 minute walk or so each way and I felt really good. Just breathing in fresh air and getting out of the house was a joy. I plan on walking to the store more often too. It's funny how not eating opens my mind to start noticing and enjoying other pleasures in my life. My evening client told me my face looks slimmer. It's only been a few days so I'm not sure if she was just acknowledging the fact she knew I was fasting or it really is slimming but either way, I feel good. I don't feel deprived and I thought that I would by now. Again one day at a time.

Day 4 2pm:
Woke up feeling extremely hungry so I immediate drank a glass of lemon water. Not the lemonade. I noticed my urine is now orange and I'm assuming from the cayanne pepper. I know I need to drink more water while taking a laxitive. It's a struggle doing this while styling hair since I'm always on my feet. I start to feel a little light headed after about an hr so I'm gonna go pick a stool up from Walmart this afternoon. Had a slight headache earlier but it didn't last. I don't take OTC meds so I was prepared to wait it out but it went away on its own after about half an hour. Currently laying in bed as my energy level is low. Didn't get much rest last night. Took me awhile to doze off and I work up around 4 am from hunger pangs. I drank a few ounces of lemonade   and fell back to sleep after an hour. When I finally woke up to get my son ready for school I wasn't hungry til about 9 am. Made a full day supply but this time lessend the amount of cayanne pepper.  I wish I could journal soon as I wake but my mornings are pretty busy. I'll be dozing for the next hour and will update before bed tonight.

AM Weigh In:

4:28pm: Chipotle burrito with brown rice, black beans, grilled veggies, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and green salsa sounds like heaven right now.  Today it his fast is in full effect and is kicking my behind BIG time. I gotta do it though. I'm almost half way there. I have a client at 5pm so that'll keep my mind partially preoccupied for the next 2 hrs.  I'll have to meditate once she leaves. Right now all I want is everything to eat.
Day 6 4:44pm:
Yep, Day 6. I wasn't able to journal anything yesterday due to the busy day I had and my Wi-Fi at home going down.  I have a confession...I cheated yesterday. I had a glass of Moscato and a shot of Tequila (if I had an emoji app on my PC it'd be of a shameful face right here).  I went out with my Sister-friend and I knew I was going to end up drinking so before hand I made a bargain with myself to add an additional day to the detox for this reason.  I wont be going out again probably until the 16th so that's perfect.  Aside from that still hungry.  On the 4th I did the sea salt flush around 8:30pm. I will never do it again.  It was not a good experience. So without trying to be too graphic, I drank it as I stated before at 8:30, 9:00pm rolls around and nothing.  About 9:45 my tummy started rumbling in the worst way.  I dashed to the restroom (I knew not to pass gass after reading the horror stories of people thinking all they'd do is pass gas and something more sinister passed).  Can you say embarrassing? Since I hadn't eaten or had any solid eliminations since the first day after drinking the Smoothe Moves tea I didn't know what to expect but I definitely wasn't prepared for "butt pissing". I stole that phrase from and Instagramer who posted it as a hash-tag under an update of his 10 day Master Cleanse experience.  He made up the perfect phrase to describe it.  It scent was much more foul then my usual eliminations. I'm sure it's cause is the lemonade removing so many toxins from my body.  I was happy but it was a struggle just getting it down. I drank a liter of warmed purified water and 1 tablespoon of sea salt. Took me about 15 minutes to drink it down. I kept getting a feeling like I wanted to gag.  I didn't vomit so that was cool.  After I eliminated I had a terrible headache.  This time it lingered from about 10pm to 1 am. I got very little sleep that night.  I am dropping inches as well as weight. My clothes around the waistline feel much better. No more muffin top so that's good. I didn't have a huge one but normally I don't have one at all so I'm happy to be back muffin topless.  I know I'll put some weight back on once I stop the fast but it will be healthy weight from good foods instead of high fat foods.    Am I hungry? Heck yes.  So far today I have drank about 40 oz of lemonade.  I'll drink the last 20 before bed and drink my tea just before bed. I've also notice my skin is getting a nice glow to it and it's nice and clear.  I feel so good I made it this far.  Six days without eating is not easy but it's getting easier.  Hunger is the normal feeling now so I've gotten used to it.  No more cheating I promise. Tomorrow is Mothers Day.  I'm spending it with my boys cooking them a big breakfast French toast and turkey sausage.  I kind of get my food fix from cooking for them.  I don't have to eat it just smelling it is comforting.
AM Weigh In:

THAT DAMN WINE!!! (I  did try at least to get Skinny Girl but the club didn't have any).

Day 8 10:24AM
So it's been a couple of days. I didn't have time to journal Sunday due to it being Mothers Day and spending time with my family. I couldn't imagine how difficult this fast would be. I took my sons to a local miniature golf, laser tag and bowling arcade with lots of junk food and sweets and was able to fight the urge to endulge in the festivities. One things for sure I am not hungry like I used to be. I miss eating like crazy though.  I'm not going to dwell on the negative aspects because I only have 3 days to go but I will state that I've had more clarity on my life as a result of fasting. This past week has been very emotional for me. My connection to food and how it relates to my spiritual well being is so profound. I tried working out doing cardio and I was way too weak so now I've switched to Yoga/Pilates DVDs in the AM or PM depending on my work schedule. Absolutely has helped reduce stress and calmed anxiety from not eating. Not to mention it will help tone as my weight reduces.  To date, I am down 7lbs and my clothes are fitting like they used to. One goal was to get these buns of mine back into these Levi cut offs that no longer fit in a size 5. Well I'm in them!!! I'm really happy with my progress. I've downloaded several recipe books on veggie dishes and vegan dishes so I don't get bored. I'm still struggling with my love for meat and if I'll be able to give it up completely. We shall see. One thing I don't want to do is feel like I'm depriving myself from anything I want.

AM Weigh In:

For those who are interested in including some type of fitness regimen into their 10 Day Master Cleanse Detox, Yoga and/or Pilates are great additions.  Both forms of exercise help reduce stress and anxiety often associated with feelings of deprivation that can come along with this detox.  They both also help to build and tone muscles to reduce sagging or flabby skin as a result of accelerated weight reduction.  I've had the videos below for some years and decided to dust them off.  In the past 2 days I've included them in the detox. They have helped tremendously on both my ability to get through this. 7 down 3 to GO!!

Day 11 Last Day!!!!! 9:35am Saturday
Okay I didn't have time to post my final weigh in til now although I did make a quick post on FB and IG...
